Nostalga for Y2K

Just wanted to alert folks to a great report currently ongoing on the radio show "Marketplace" and produced by American RadioWorks: "The Suprising Legacy of Y2K." You remember Y2K, don't you? When the computers were all going to crash, the world was going to end, and a guy in Arizona was going to make a fortune by selling used bicycles? (Though I'm not sure what the guy stockpiling bicycles thought he'd get paid in - cigarettes, I guess...)

Well, the folks at American RadioWorks have done a nice three-part look back at what happened, what didn't happen, and (most importantly) what it means today. Basic conclusions: a) it wasn't a hoax and you should thank your local tech geek for making everything look easy, b) the prep work for the crisis changed this country's tech industry significantly, and c) that because of our growing interconnectedness, the ramifications of a Y2K-type failure is more catastrophic than ever.

Got you interested yet? Surf over to the American RadioWorks website to read transcripts, to listen to the actual segments, and to learn more about the Legacy of Y2K.
